The Countryside

Posted by Margarete on 08 August 2007

Depending where you are in Slovakia, the landscape varies. Mainly there is the mountainous north, rolling hills that gradually slope south towards the Danube, and plenty of forests throughout the country. The pictures below capture a range of environments throughout various seasons.

Hi, Just to say it was a nice surprise when I came across your website, I was even more pleased when I saw some pictures from/or around Zlate Moravce, that's very close to my village - Slazany. Made me feel good. I enjoyed reading your blogs, made me laugh, especially the one about 'hard alcohol' how funny and true. Well done. Zuzi

I have found family in Slovakia only in recent years. I visited 3 years ago in Bratislava, Holic and Kopcany. We took a trip through the High Tatras to Banska-Bystrica and the countryside and historic sites were simply indescribable. The country and people, especially my cousins, captured my heart and I felt I'd come home. I would like to come back and spend a lengthy time again to explore and acquaint myself with my family again as our trip was very hurried. We correspond frequently and I feel a very strong pull to return one day. Thank you for your book and blog. Carol

Really nice pictures. I have been once in Slovakia, a beautiful country with nice mountains. Greetings from Slovenia. Do you know that people in Slovakia call them self Slovenci, and the same is in Slovenia. We call them Slovaki, and they call us Slovinci.

I liked your website very much. Do you have any notes on contemporary slovak weddings (in tovarniky)? common wedding gifts? common baby gifts? common hostess gifts? My family & I will be traveling there in April and would like to be prepared as possible. Thank you.

Hmmm. I don't have anything specific on Slovak weddings or common kinds of gifts, unfortunately. If I find something I'll post it.

love the site. am looking into moving to eastern europe in a few years. i would love to spend 3 or 4 months prior to a longer move. looks like its going to be a lot of work to get there. too bad I cant just pack my van up and drive there. i am more interested in smaller towns but I am guessing a small town in Slovakia is different than a small town out here. I am moreless looking at living with the minimum needs. I am thankful for sites like this that can help me decide what is best and where to get started.

What a great idea to create a website that educates foreigners about Slovakia, our culture and traditions. I was born and raised in Bratislava and while I was looking at this website, I realized that I am very proud to be a Slovak. I live in USA for 11 years and I will recommend this website to all my american friends.
