My Favorite Slovak Breakfast
I took a picture of the breakfast I ate this morning—my favorite: a rožok with salami and soft cheese, along with tomato, Edam, and Slovak mustard. I usually drink šipkovy čaj – rose hip tea, along with everything.

I don’t eat this every day. Usually I have cereal.
The the name of the cheese I had literally translates to “high-fat spreadable melted cheese”. I’m not sure if this is the best name for marketing purposes, at least it would probably not do well in the U.S.

I probably wouldn’t have even bought this, but it was already in the fridge when we came. I’ll buy it again, though, high fat or not. In the store I’ll utter one of my favorite phrases, “Oh, what the heck. I’m on vacation.”

Have you ever had the rose hip jam some people make in SK? It's really interesting.

I can't say I've ever seen it sold, but then again, I haven't known to keep an eye out for it. I'd sure like to try it ;)

mnam. This is my favorite Slovak breakfast as well, but my host families usually serve ovocny caj instead. I didn't know what those rolls were called.

I also am a fan of the simple, but tasty Slovak breakfast. I noticed they don't use many preserved foods for breakfast. Mostly fresh vegetables, cheese & fresh meats. Very nice!
